‘Barriers block access’ to justice system for people with disabilities

Disability advocates say that access to the criminal justice system is almost non-existent for people with disabilities. The Human Rights Commission held its first roundtable on the issue today, hearing from people with disabilities about the barriers the face in accessing justice through the legal system.

One expert says that people with disabilities who have communication difficulties are being pushed into the prisons at younger ages because of a lack of support from police, courts and governments.
