The Dutch Government announced this month it would seek to ban the burqa in public places, justifying the move on security grounds and creating a storm of accusations of intolerance and abuse of human rights. The proposal by the minister for immigration and intergration was supported by the Dutch government but Muslim groups say it is not the right statement to be making and it would only add to the problems in the community. Alex Koutts spoke with a Famile Arslan Dutch Lawyer and Representative of ‘Islam and Citizenship’ a Muslim group in the Netherlands.
