The Bangarra Dance Theatre is back on the road, with the new double bill Clan opening tomorrow in Brisbane, ahead of Melbourne and Sydney seasons in June and July. The show opens with Reflections – a collage of choreography drawn from Stephen Page’s repertoire. Second is Francis Rings’ new work, Unaipon, which premiered to wide acclaim at the Adelaide festival. The show is inspired by the life of Aboriginal inventor, and philosopher David Unaipon – who was the first indigenous Australian to write and publish a book and an accomplished musician and speaker. Trevor Dodds spoke to Ms Rings – and began by asking her about the qualities of dance that have made it a vehicle for her story the man whose face appears on our $50 note.
