Award for Mining Research
Day after day, mining tycoons like Gina Rinehart and Clive Palmer are all over our air waves and we very rarely hear about the brains behind the mining sector. Matt Tewhatu talks to Gideon Chitombo who on Thursday the 14th of June, received National recognition by the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering for his outstanding research in the mining sector.
Zimbabwean-born Gideon Chitombo has been recognised by Australia’s principal science body for his research into mining using underground rock blasting and caving techniques. An odd, but exciting passion if you’re Mr Chitombo who says his love for mining and blowing things up underground was instilled in him while he was growing up in Zimbabwe.
