More than 1,000 people are trafficked into Australia each year and are forced to work in slave-like conditions. Last week Minister for Home Affairs Bob Debus chaired the first ever National People Trafficking Roundtable. Government agencies met with community groups and NGOs to discuss ways to improve Australia’s current response to trafficking and slavery.
