For the first time ever, an all-indigenous fire and rescue team was created in a Sydney suburb – Redfern. The platoon is  breaking barriers in the community by acting as an example of representation, a positive role model for indigenous children and removing the stigma around people in uniforms.

The team was created under Fire and Rescue NSW’s IFARES program with the purpose of creating career opportunities, pushing education and highlighting the importance of life experience. This all-aboriginal crew was laid in the hope that people will be motivated to undertake the training program and more such crews will follow.
