Australians strongly in favour of Obama
Democrat Barack Obama is a shoo-in for the American presidency, if it were up to Australians that is. A poll by The United States Studies Centre at Sydney University found that Australians would overwhelmingly elect the Illinois senator over Republican rival John McCain by more than a 4-1 margin. The survey which was conducted last month, also revealed that 80% of respondents believed that America was on the ‘wrong track’, while a strong majority felt that Australia was headed in the opposite direction. This follows another Australian study conducted by UMR Research found that 60% of respondents were under the impression that the world had become a less safe place under the last 8 years of American foreign policy. The Wire’s spoke to Professor Geoffrey Garrett, CEO of the US Studies Centre at Sydney University about their research findings.
