An internal report from the Department of Home Affairs released under the Freedom of Information Act 1982, shows two Australian citizens were wrongfully locked up in an immigration detention centre in 2016 and 2017. The review of these cases shows the 17 officers involved were poorly trained or even haven’t received any training for around 12 months. This issue brings concerns for human rights activists and will open a conversation about how much power officers are given.
