Tensions are continuing to rise over the deregulation of Australia’s wheat industry. Some members of the Coalition are threatening to defy Opposition Leader Tony Abbott and support Labor’s push to deregulate the wheat industry. If passed, the current regulator, Wheat Exports Australia would be dismantled, a decision that is also dividing the farmers of the East and West Coast.

Most farmers in Western Australia support the move to fully deregulate the industry, while some on the East coast fear this could lead to a monopoly of the wheat industry.
