The Australian Music Prize is a relatively new award founded in 2005, which has been designed to recognise the outstanding creative achievements of Australian Music Artists. The award also hopes to encourage and develop the standard of music in Australia. Winners of the prize already include two great artists, “The Drones” and “Augie March”. The 2007 deadline for nomination is also just around the corner. The Wire spoke to founder of the prize, Scott Murphy about his idea. And to gain an industry perspective, we spoke to Carl Pink, lead singer of “The Fallen Saints” and Emma Haslam from “The Governor Hindmarsh Hotel” in Adelaide.
