An Australian 23-year-old has for the past 18 months been held without charge by Kurdish Authorities in Northern Iraq. Ahmed Jamal travelled to Mecca on a pilgrimage two years ago, and the last his father heard from him was when he phoned to say that he was going to Iraq to see a girl. Jamal was visited by Australian Officials for the first time in late February, when he told them that he had been tortured and was still threatened regularly by prison authorities. Lawyer Stephen Kenny has been asked to represent his Jamal and he thinks the Government has to put more effort into protecting its citizens from torture in foreign prisons.
