Australian big business slow on diversity

The Diversity Council of Australia has called on big business to follow the lead of companies Merrill Lynch and IBM, who recruit openly gay, lesbian and transgender employees. At a briefing this morning in Sydney, the Council praised the two firms for their inclusive policies but said discrimination against gay people in the workplace is still widespread. And while the federal government is committed to amending 58 pieces of legislation that discriminate against same sex couples, a commitment to workplace equality is lacking.
