Australia to host peace talks for the Philippine Government
Australia will play host to the resumption of peace talks with the ongoing conflict between the Government of the Philippines and the left progressive movement of the National Democratic Front. The National Council of Churches in Australia, peace groups and academics will hold peace forums in the coming week to play a mediator role. Spokesperson for the event Peter Murphy says Australians need to know its government recently committed another $123 million of military assistance to the Philippines government now under severe attack for its gross human rights violations. The Philippines has recently held Presidential elections putting the son of former People Power President Corazon Aquino in power.
