The Australian government has put to bed speculation that refugees on Nauru and Manus Island could be resettled in the United States, announcing a deal had been reached on Sunday.

In return, Australia will take in a number of refugees from camps in Costa Rica as part of the deal.

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull spoke to the press earlier today and reiterated that while the proposal is a positive step towards resettlement, Australia’s border security remains a number one priority.
