Australia is a stingy nation…or so it seems! A report released last week by the Make Poverty History group in Australia revealed that out of 22 developed nations, Australia ranked 19th in terms of how much foreign aid the government gives to developing countries. This amount is estimated to be at 0.3% of Australia’s Gross National Product, far short of the United Nations target of 0.7%. So why did Australia fare so poorly in this review and how effective is the review in assessing our foreign aid agenda?
