Secret documents have revealed that the Australian Defence Force may have sidestepped the ‘law of war’ when dealing with prisoners in Afghanistan and Iraq. The documents, obtained by the Public Interest Advocacy Centre, or PIAC show that Australia engaged in a controversial policy that freed them from any obligation to the prisoners they captured. PIAC are now calling for a full public inquiry to get to the bottom of what they call a ‘legal fiction.’
