A report Where Should All the Trees Go released today shows that Australia’s suburbs have become significantly less green in the past three years. Less affluent suburbs are suffering the most loss of tree canopy and it has the effect of increasing heat in those places by as much as ten degrees, with serious health consequences for small children and the elderly. People in those suburbs will also pay more for power as they have to run airconditioners longer to stay cool.
