The Pacific Agreement on Closer Economic Relations (PACER) Plus is a regional trade agreement between Australia and some of its closest neighbours.
Australia, New Zealand and 14 other Pacific Island countries have been in negotiations since 2009, but it hasn’t all been smooth sailing.
Australia has been pushing for lower export tariffs, and more rights for foreign investors, while nations like Fiji and Papua New Guinea are concerned their local employment and financial security could be compromised in the deal.
