Australia is not doing enough to meet its international obligations to reduce carbon emissions. According to a new report released by the Climate Change Authority today Australia’s emissions reduction target is inadequate. With the current commitment to reduce its emissions by five per cent by 2020, Australia is lagging far behind the targets set by other countries.

The Climate Change Authority’s CEO Anthea Harris has told The Wire that by raising the target Australia would contribute to the global effort of avoiding the worst impacts of climate change in a responsible and appropriate way.
