Kevin Rudd has re-affirmed Australia’s commitment to stopping the expansion of nuclear weapons. Whilst visiting Hiroshima in Japan he announced plans to establish a commission, with the aim of kick starting the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. But with Australia’s uranium mining industry heading into a boom period, the question of how to ensure uranium exports don’t contribute to nuclear armaments remains.
