The United Nations has released a report saying Australia has breached the International Convention against Torture by failing to provide adequate detention conditions for asylum seekers, end the practice of detention of children, and put a stop to the escalating violence and tension at the Regional Processing Centre on Manus Island. Prime Minister Tony Abbott says Australians are sick of being lectured at by the UN, but Human Rights advocates are wondering why we’re applying to be on the Human Rights Committee, when we can’t meet their standards.
