Australia announces cooperation to prevent asylum seekers escaping Sri Lanka

Foreign minister Stephen Smith has announced an agreement including an additional 11 million dollars of Australian support, along with co-operation in the area of law enforcement. Stephen Smith says that he’s tackling the root causes of the people smuggling problem, but human rights groups and other commentators say that by co-operating with the Sri Lankan government, Australia may be making the situation worse.
