The refugee debate rolled on in parliament today, but little time was devoted to how Australia might assist in addressing the root causes of turmoil and displacement in the region. The monsoon season is approaching in Sri Lanka, where hundreds of thousands of Tamils have languished in hellish camps for over five months. As desperation amongst Tamils grows, some commentators are calling on Australia to raise the stakes in its attitude toward the Sri Lankan government.
