Australia a key player in $135 million search for aliens

It’s the $135 million search for alien life and Australia has a starring role. Launched by physicist Stephen Hawking, The global Breakthrough Listen initiative is the biggest and most far-reaching search for extra-terrestrials yet. The project will use two of the world’s most powerful telescopes to survey one million stars and listen for messages from 100 galaxies. One of those telescopes is Australia’s own Parkes Telescope in NSW. What exactly will the telescopes be listening to and how will this search benefit us here, back on Earth?
