In post boxes around the world votes are being cast this week. However if you don’t speak Italian you probably know little about it. In a precedent for global citizenship around four million Italian citizens resident abroad are able to participate in this month’s general election, including around 95,oo in Australia. They will be electing representatives to the Italian Parliament via postal vote. Stephanie Raison spoke to Roberto Mengoni, First Secretary in charge of Consular Affairs at the Italian Embassy in Canberra and two of the lower house candidates Francesco Giacobbe from the Unione coalition and Forza Italia’s Teresa Todaro Restifa.
