ATSIC Regional Councils play the waiting game

As the end of the financial year draws close, strategies are already in place for the transfer of ATSIC’s projects and funding into the mainstream, by absorption into various Federal Government departments. But with the abolition of ATSIC as a national body, the government has promised to keep regional councils in place for another twelve months. Federal Indigenous Affairs Minister Amanda Vanstone met with Regional ATSIC Council Chairs this morning – and afterwards discussed the likely future for the regions, with Rubena Colbey.
