Yet another blow to the already wounded relationship between the Federal Government and Peak indigenous body ATSIC following the commission’s action challenging the government in the high court. We spoke to Commissioner Rick Griffiths about the legality of the government’s separation of powers of ATSIC – and the wide-reaching implications if the legal battle is successful. We also spoke to Suspended ATSIC Chair Geoff Clark about the court’s decision to uphold his conviction of obstructing police – and the government’s call for him to “show cause” as to why he should retain his position. He continues to fight the government suspension with a High Court challenge of his own.
