Earlier on this week, BBC2 aired a documentary on euthanasia called Terry Pratchett: Choosing to Die. The program featured a 71 year old Briton called Peter Smedley, who travelled away from home to a remote town in Switzerland where euthanasia is legal. His death was filmed and featured uncensored for the documentary’s conclusion. The Wire’s Wade Stephens spoke to UTS Sydney’s lecturer on ‘Issues in Documentary’ Jeni Thornley, Dr Phillip Nitschke, Director of Exit International and Terry Plane, Adelaide’s Channel 7 News Director to find out if such provactive material is justifiable.
