ASIO opposes court terror suspects being able to view their files

The Federal Court ruled last year that two Iraqi asylum seekers and the US anti-war activist Scott Parkin, should be allowed to see the documents that explained why ASIO had branded them national security risks. However, in his submission to an appeal against the decision, ASIO chief Paul O’Sullivan said that such a ruling would in effect allow terror suspects access to highly classified national security information. Marika Dias is the community lawyer who represented Scott Parkin, and the Convener of the Anti-Terrorism Laws Working Group of the Federation of Community Legal Centres.
