Art gives a voice to young Aboriginal artists

A new mural in the inner Sydney suburb of Redfern is giving young Aboriginal artists a chance to celebrate their neighbourhood’s Indigenous history. Many homes have been knocked down in recent months to make way for a major housing re-development slated for the precinct.
Now Aboriginal artist Reko Rennie, and a group of young locals, have transformed a vacant terrace house at the Block into an eye-catching artwork that pays tribute to inspiring Aboriginal leaders and the area’s rich heritage. It is part of a Sydney Council project to celebrate the living culture of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community across the city.
