With a world that’s hungry for Australia’s natural resources, is it realistic to want to want to preserve the pristine wilderness that’s found on top of our richest reserves? Popular tourist destination, Arkaroola Sanctuary in South Australia’s Flinders Ranges, is being explored for uranium deposits by Marathon Resources. The State Government has recently released a draft environmental framework for the Northern Flinders, but Greens Member for the Legislative Council, Mark Parnell, told Deb Hawke the framework’s giving the green light for Marathon to mine Arkaroola – despite their dubious record of illegally dumping nuclear waste.
