Salt in our diets has been linked to cardiovascular disease for many years. But Australians are still consuming on average five to 10 times the daily recommended amount. A study from the George Institute for Global Health shows salt intake is out of consumers’ control. One fifth of our intake comes from bread yet data released today shows the level of salt in Australian bread products has not changed in the past four years despite efforts to reduce salt in our diets.
