APY Leaders call for more autonomy in governing local services

The Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara Lands are home to about 2,500 people, and cover over 100,000 square kilometres in north-western South Australia. The South Australian Government recently announced at a meeting with the APY executive, they had funding for six much needed community support workers. Minister for Aboriginal Affairs and Reconciliation Grace Portolesi says she wants to recruit these positions locally. APY General Manager Ken Newman believes the positions should not only be recruited locally, but managed locally, and not become state government positions.
