Stories in the Chinese media over the last month suggest that a supplier of touchscreens for Apple products was the target of a strike and a violent protest by the workers at the plant. The company initially blamed the protests on a dispute over a holiday bonus, but the real story runs deeper. Geoffrey Crothall is editor of the English version Hong Kong’s China Labour Bulletin, and he begins this report.
