AP Lands elections
Claims today that the Anangu Pitjantjajara peoples are being ignored by South Australian Parliament. The lands have been self-governing under their own specific legislation for almost three decades – but a bill to carry out new elections has been passed by the South Australian Upper House last night. Australian Democrats MP Kate Reynolds says the bill has been put up in response to suggestions from the Government-appointed coordinator in the AP Lands Bob Collins – and accuses the government of not speaking to the Anangu Pitjantjatjara about elections. The bill is yet to pass the Lower House, but Ms Reynolds told Rubena Colbey she fears it will destabilise the AP communties.
