Slurring your words, walking differently and possibly even singing in public places could end a good night out with criminal charges. Amendments to NSW move-on laws lowers the threshold from ‘seriously’ to ‘noticeably’ drunk, which means the law applies to anyone who ‘appears’ drunk in public places. But the repercussions of the new move-on powers could be detrimental, according to Sydney University Law lecturer Thalia Anthony, who thinks the laws will criminalize the behaviour of Indigenous Australians, not stop crime.
