Anti-poverty week finds 2 million living below poverty line

Despite Australia’s strong economy many Australians are doing it tough. An estimated 2 million Australians live on or below the poverty line – a sharp contrast to our strong economy. Most Sydney siders interviewed thought those on social security benefits were most likely to be living in poverty. To launch national poverty week the Australian Council for Social Services (ACOSS) have released the 10 Essentials to make Australia Fair Report. In a time when Governments are talking about Australian Values, ACOSS says its time to put those values into action and start making Australia fairer for everyone. ACOSS Executive Director, Andrew Johnson, says Australia should adopt an anti-poverty plan.
