The death of 24 year old Noxola Nogwaza marks another brutal murder of a lesbian in South Africa. At least four high profile lesbians have been murdered over the past four years, in addition to thousands of incidents of violence against lesbians, including rape. The gay community has expressed concern that, like the other murders, the latest incident will not be subject to a full Police investigation. The government fails to acknowledge that the killing is a targeted hate crime, which is illegal under the South African Equality Act.
