The Government surprised everyone today when it announced the creation of an Office for Water Resources within the Prime Minister’s Department. It’s a move that has both Labor and the Greens speculating about political agendas. Both parties say that this initiative does not go far enough in addressing issues of climate change- a major contributor to water scarcity and salinity. While independent water groups have welcomed the spotlight being thrown on the water crisis, they also argue that the broader issue of climate change must addressed if Australia is to deal with the problem effectively.
