A recent 15 percent spike in grocery prices has raised alarm, over the corporate giants Woolworth’s and Cole’s control over the consumer market. Labor Leader Kevin Rudd has called for a National Grocery Pricing Inquiry by the ACCC. There are fears that due to Woolworth’s and Cole’s- now owned by WA Group WesFarmers- that they are colluding on prices and manipulating the price of household groceries. South Australian Uni’s Director for Regulation and Analysis, Professor David Round says whether Woolworth’s and Cole’s could really control the consumer market to such an extent.
