Federal Indigenous Affairs Minister AMANDA VANSTONE hit the hustings earlier this week selling her Indigenous Affairs policy, promising to spend the existing 3 billion dollars wisely. Speaking on Bumma Bippera Radio, Ms Vanstone said the government would give Indigenous people more bang for their buck by coordinating services better, while attacking Labor’s family tax policy and it’s impact on Indigenous people. In response to questioning, Minister VANSTONE said she could never support a treaty with Indigenous people because we are all the same. And as for whether a Liberal Government would ever sign such an agreement… Ms Vanstone said she’s an immigrant and so what. Her remarks were a return to language offensive to Indigenous Australians. Labor’s Indigenous Affairs Spokesman KERRY O’BRIEN has labeled the Minister’s comments outrageous. And he says Ms Vantone’s ignoring the importance of a treaty-style agreement with Indigenous people.
