Eating seafood and fish oil could save the economy over $4 billion, according to a new study commissioned by the Complementary Healthcare Council of Australia. Eating fish containing Omega 3, is believed to significantly help heart function and reduce strokes, which in turn could greatly reduce health costs.

The council is pushing for fish oil supplements to be GST exempt, and be subsidised under the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme. The mainstream medical profession says the suggestion may have merit but warrants more research before a decision is made.
