The smacking debate has returned to Queensland this week, with former Attorney General Dean Wells proposing legislation that outlaws hitting a child to cause injury. Last year New Zealand made it illegal to use physical punishment on children. But should these issues be dealt with by legislative means, or is it a change in attitude that’s needed? “Alternatives to Violence” is a volunteer international organisation that holds workshops to help people come to terms with violent behaviours.
