The first ever Rental Affordability Index says that rent is unaffordable for nearly half of our population. The study by National Shelter and SGS Economics and Planning reveals Australian households in the lowest 40% of income earnings can see up to 65% of their income committed to rent. But how will new housing be financed? The government response to the crisis has been slow. Minister for Social Services, Christian Porter says “more needs to be done”
