Alice drinking ‘solution’ just moves the problem

Today is the second day of complete outdoor prohibition in Alice Springs. Mounted police are enforcing the new ban on drinking in any public place, and after one day they’ve already handed out 15 one hundred dollar on the spot fines. People who drink in the streets are probably the least likely to have the ready cash to pay such fines – Jonathon Pilbrow is Central Australian Policy Officer for the Northern Territory Council of Social Services says he’s worried the new laws will just result in more indigenous people going to gaol.
