Algal Bloom events expected to increase amidst climate change

A type of planktonic algae, has been linked to the mass death of marine life across South Australia’s Fleurieu Peninsula, including popular tourist locations, Encounter Bay and Basham Beach.
Beachgoers have reported suffering minor symptoms in the algae-infested waters, including sore eyes, coughing and blurry vision. This type of ‘algal bloom’ is reported to be caused by high sea temperatures and expected to occur more frequently with climate change.
