Alcohol banned on airstrips – is home brew next?

In Queensland, the government has ramped up laws restricting alcohol in indigenous communities. The government was embarassed when a jet carrying staffers and ministers brought wine into the dry community of Lockhart River earlier this year. But the new legislation outlaws the carriage of alcohol on airstrips in communities. Next on the agenda the government is considering banning homebrew kits. Craig Egert spoke to Peter Guivarra, Chair of both the Mapoon Aboriginal Council and the peak Aboriginal Co-ordinating Council about the problems of policing the alcohol management plans.
