The NATO meeting in Riga is looking at the changing role of NATO, its need to ramp up its effort in Afghanistan and the issue of taking on new members. For an organisation that was originally formed to keep peace in the Cold War, it’s now looking more and more like NATO is moving towards a new more global role But Dr Craig Snyder, senior lecturer from the department of Social and International relations at Deakin University says NATO is not in danger of becoming the world’s policeman and Australia is unlikely to be asked to join.
