Afghani activist Suraya Pakzad is currently touring Australia. In 1998 she began a group called Voices of women, secretly educating girls against the orders of the Taliban. Her group can now operate openly, in the cities at least, and also runs a range of projects designed to restore the rights of women in the country. One of their aims is to ‘convert’ high ranking men to the cause of women’s rights.
