ACTU threatens global action over Fiji’s crackdown on trade unions

New regulations have come into effect in Fiji severely restricting the activities of unions in the country. The Australian Council of Trade Unions has threatened domestic consequences for Australian firms operating in Fiji if they take advantage of the country’s new laws that clamp down on unions.

Critics of Fiji’s military-led government say that the new laws are just one more step in a long term plan to systematically shut down potential sources of dissent.
